Yes, this page is kind off one big show off. I'm doing all I can to make it useable, good looking (in a not-too-fancy way) and, at the same time, use it for my portfolio to show other things I have done.
My goal is to make all the scripts, design, HTML and graphics by myself, except for some details like how to get the width of the window with JavaScript. I could do that too, but it's so much easier to just grab it from a forum instead of trying to figure out what to use and struggeling with all the browsers errors and differences. I'm just using those scripts as tools to make better stuff, like my own lightbox like system.
The lightbox system is one of the things I like best about this site. It's made with PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS and I think it's a little better than the "original" because it's more adapted to my needs and because it has some smart extra functions.
It will check the directory, where I have all my pictures, and make thumbnaild of the content when the page is loaded. This makes it easy to add and remove pictures, without having to make my own thumbnails for the new one and editing the document to make them appear or disappear.
I have allso made it size and resize compatible. If the picture is too big, it will get scrollbars and the borders will stay inside your window, even if it's resized. Give it a try id you have not done it yet. It's allso possible to view the picture in a new window, if you want to see it in an other way.
If the user don't know how to close the box, it's OK to panic and click everywhere at the page. It can, in fact, be closed in three ways: clicking at the "Close" link, clicking at the picture or clicking at the dimmed area outside the box. This makes it a little easier to understand what to do.
